Asunción is a lively and colorful city, crowned by the waters of the Paraguay River. This beautiful city merges its culture with exu­berant nature and a colonial past, managing to incorporate dif­ferent architectural styles worth admiring. The Guaraní culture remains intact in the capital of the Republic of Paraguay and proudly shows its heritage to the world.

Its foundation coincided with the day of the Asunción de la Virgen (Assumption of the Virgin), August 15, 1537. Asun­cion was the administrative center of the Rio de la Plata division during the Viceroyalty of Peru, until it was moved to Buenos Aires. At the time it grew and was quickly populated in 1617, giving life to many other cities: the second founda­tion of Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Concepción del Bermejo (Argentina), Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), Santia­go de Jerez, Ciudad Real (Brazil), etc. The scene of an eloquent rebeUion against the Spanish colonial rule until 1811, it became the capital of the country after the Independence of Paraguay.

To experience the Paraguayan customs you should try some of the typical dishes. Here the cuisine has its own characteristics, with a strong indigenous Tupí Guaraní influence, which was combined with the cuisine of the Spanish conquerors. Each region uses the local products and the culinary secrets inher­ited from their ancestors, which make Paraguayan cuisine de­licious and nourishing, with character and definition.

The most representative dishes are the sopa paraguaya (more similar to a tortiUa or a soufñé than to a soup), which is made with cheese, eggs, onion and corn flour. The ever present chipá (cheese bread) and chipa guazú, made with corn. Other known dishes are mbejú (starch tortilla, cheese and milk), borí de gal­lina (chicken broth with corn flour and cheese), asado a la olla (pot roast), a la par­rilla (barbecue beef), a la estaca (beef on skewers ) or al asador (beef on the griU), chicharrón trenzado (meat made in twisted strips that are boiled and later fried), pas­tel mandió (empanadas made with mashed manioc, corn flour and filled with meat), puchero (stew) with meat, vegetables and corn on the cob -but more diluted-, sopa de pescado (fish soup with milk and cheese) and the traditional cabeza de vaca enter­rada (buried cow’s head) at weddings and fifteen-year-old birthday parties. Among the most outstanding desserts are kivevé (squash polenta, corn flour, sugar, milk and cheese), coserevá (sour orange preserves in honey), gueso Paraguay con miel negra (Paraguay cheese with black honey) and guayaba en almíbar (guava in syrup).

Climate and location.

Oscos-Eo, 0 rural borough of western Asturias bordering on the Golicion province of Lugo, lies between the Oscos Mountains and the River Eo, 150 km from Oviedo.
